The only changes from last week were Max for John up front and Tom B for Jamie in midfield, and straight from the kick off the hull were back into their rhythm with some good passing moves pushing Wollaston back. But Wollaston had an immensely strong spine to their team with a beast of a centre half, a powerful pair in midfield and a very tricky front man, and with the game fairly even it was eventually Wollaston who got the first break.
A seemingly harmless effort from outside the area rolled toward Webber, who lost track of the ball and it suddenly disappeared, moments later it reappeared on the other side of him and rolled into the net.
0:1 to Wollaston, but the hull are no longer so brittle, heads did not drop and with half time approaching Max found himself unmarked in the box as Wollaston waited for a whistle that never came, and produced an emphatic finish to make it 1:1 at half time.
The hull were playing downhill in the second half, and early on that is just how the match went. There seemed to be plenty of cover at the back, but somehow a shot from outside the box found its way in. Pete had to go off injured and John brought himself into midfield with Tom B dropping in again at left back. The hull still looked good to get something out of the game, but could not get the ball out to the dangerous Tom and Aaron on the wings.
I’m only going on hearsay now as I missed it, but allegedly the curse of the hull keepers struck again as a gentle lob found its way in go make it 1:3 to Wollaston, a scoreline that really didn’t do the hulls performance justice.
Gaffer Millist rang the changes, Max made way for Andy and Cuddly Man Mountain Dave made way for Gaz with Joel coming on in goal, but there was no way back into the match.
Decent performances all round, but Tom P was made man of the match.
