Same old Same

A new season and the same old story for a Monyhull team shockingly short on confidence. What had happened to the Tom Pickett of Tuesday nights, always in the right place at the right time, now in the middle of two right places where he could head clear or control the ball after it bounced but instead letting it bounce over his head. The Tom Buckley of Tuesday that never gets caught in possession, always covers back and picks the right pass, the Ryan who drifts past defenders and always finds the incisive pass, the Max who looks dangerous in front of goal, the John who looks ready to pass out after 20 minutes, oh, he was there.

Strangely the morning seemed to start well, with the hull keeping hold of the ball and passing it about, but then, from the first corner the ball bounced in front of Dan in the six yard box (where was Joel?) hit his chest and lobbed into the net.

Then inside 10 minutes the hull were 2 down as in a carbon copy of Gary Neville and Peter Schmeichel in front of the Holt end a few years back Tom P running back after a long ball headed it past Joel who was coming out for it, with, surprisingly, neither of them calling for it. Never ever, EVER put a back pass on target.

At half time it was still Monyhull 0 Monyhull own goals 2, and Gaffer Millist demanded the team get back into the game. We didn’t, and the second half was if anything more disappointing. A harmless cross saw Joel leap like a salmon to push the ball wide, only to push it into the net for a third own goal, regardless of what the stats may say. A shocking decision from the ref who bought a dive from Pye Greens number 10 and gave a penalty heaped insult onto injury, and Pye Green did score a goal for themselves giving five in total.

Yet again the hull prop up the league, as we did for the majority of last season, yet again the only way is up. Or staying still. Lets make it up, starting with a tricky away match to a Lighthouse team who started last season in the first division before folding.
